Have you heard about the Elephant ID Database that you’re helping to build?
Thanks to your amazing support, we’re creating a living record of the elephants roaming safe and free in the Leuser Ecosystem!
To do this, our team patrols forest land, monitoring elephants in real time. They also place small, hidden trail cameras deep in the forest, tracking elephants as they roam about their days. Every photo and video recorded helps us grow the database, and our knowledge of these gentle forest giants.

Over the past few months, thanks to your support, we’ve successfully tracked 15 individual elephants in the wild. Each elephant is recognised by their unique features–like tusks, ears, tails, scars, and even ear lobes. By tracking these details, we can follow their movements and better understand their lives in the wild.

We’ve also recorded 62 more elephants through direct encounters and trail cameras–elephants that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet.

These moments are only possible because of you. Every photo, every database entry, and every elephant roaming free is proof of the difference you’re making. This research doesn’t just give us fascinating insights–it strengthens protection of elephants and their forest homes.
You play a vital role in this journey. Thank you for being here with us!
