Our recent fundraising campaign in June raised money to convert a Toyota Hilux into a fully equipped fire truck, ready to fight fires and protect the Sumatran elephants home. 

Because fires are threatening Sumatra’s Way Kambas National Park. And many of these fires are not accidents. Poachers deliberately set them to clear land for illegal hunting. The flames destroy precious elephant habitat, and leave wildlife dangerously exposed with nowhere to hide.

Way Kambas is one of the last strongholds of the Critically Endangered Sumatran elephant. We must protect this forest.

There was just one thing missing: a fully functioning, dedicated fire truck. 

So we asked for your help. And you listened.

You rallied behind us and helped bring this life-saving fire truck to life!

As soon as the campaign ended at the end of June, the truck headed straight to a workshop in Jakarta to begin its transformation.

Thanks to you, it was fitted with:

• A water tank
• A powerful high-pressure pump
• A bull bar
• A heavy-duty winch
• Reinforced suspension

Everything it needed to become a fully equipped, frontline firefighting vehicle.

Thanks to you, Way Kambas now has its fire truck. Our rangers have the equipment they need to respond fast when flames threaten the forest. And the elephants that call the forest home will be safer because of it.
